Attempted attack in Cayce’s Guignard Park, police seek suspect

Police are searching for a man believed to be in his early 20s. He was last seen dressed all in black and wearing a red mask that covered half of his face.

CAYCE, SC — Cayce police are still searching for a man who attempted to attack a woman in Guignard Park early Friday morning.

Investigators were called to the park after an armed man dressed all in black and wearing a red mask covering half his face attempted to attack a woman in the park around 7:15 a.m. Friday before running away.

To ensure that park visitors like Patsy Huggins felt safe, police officers were on foot and in cars in Guignard Park on Saturday afternoon.

“I was surprised because I’ve never had any problems here. I come here quite often,” Huggins said.

Huggins said Guignard Park is her favorite place to take a quiet walk with her family. She hopes investigators find the man who committed the incident.

“I hope they find someone who dared to come into the park and try to intimidate people,” she said. “Because like I said, this place is generally a safe place to walk.”

Cayce Mayor Elise Partin said police need help with their investigation.

“The best thing people can do right now is to call us and let us know if they live within 10 blocks of the park and have security cameras there, even if they don’t see anything,” Partin said. “That’s helpful for us because it tells us more.”

Although the City of Cayce warns people to remain vigilant around the park, the mayor wants people in the area to adopt Patsy Huggins’ fearless spirit and continue to enjoy the city’s parks.

Police have deployed a sniffer dog and are trying to track down the suspect. Authorities said officers are still heavily patrolling the area and have asked the public to help with any information about the attempted attack.

The department urged the public to report information to Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or call Cayce police at 803-794-0456. Doorbell cameras and surveillance videos are also welcome.
