NEW DELHI: In a shocking development in the Pune Porsche accident case in which two technicians were killed, according to television reports, the accused teenager’s blood sample meant for a breathalyzer test was swapped with that of his mother.

The CID on Monday arrested two doctors of the state-run Sassoon General Hospital — forensic department head Dr Ajay Taware and trauma doctor Dr Shrihari Halnor — and a morgue official on suspicion of swapping the blood sample of the teenager involved in the May 19 accident.

Police said the trio acted through a “middleman” at the behest of the underage driver’s father, a city construction worker, to manipulate the report that was supposed to confirm whether the 17-year-old was under the influence of alcohol when he crashed his Porsche Taycan into a motorcycle, killing two technicians.

The arrests were made after police received reports of blood samples of the minor from Sassoon Hospital and a hospital in Aundh, both of which had shown no alcohol content in the blood. The forensic laboratory also obtained reports of DNA fingerprints of the minor and his father.

“Our investigation revealed that after the accident, the builder hired a middleman (yet to be identified) to contact Ghatkamble. The middleman, in turn, put the builder in touch with Taware around 10 am on May 19. A check of the builder’s phone, seized from his bungalow, revealed that he made one regular call to Taware and later made 20 more calls using an app,” said Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar.

Trauma doctor Dr. Shrihari Halnor admitted that he received Rs 300,000 from Taware. It was Halnor who threw the minor’s blood sample in a dustbin and replaced it with his mother’s blood sample.
