Man impersonates professor using voice modification app, rapes 7 women in Madhya Pradesh | Indiablooms

Bhopal: An illiterate man using clever technology raped at least seven women in Madhya Pradesh, media reported.

Brajesh Kushwaha, who used to work in a factory, posed as a college teacher using a voice-changing app and deceived tribal students from Sidhi district in India’s Madhya Pradesh state by promising them help in obtaining scholarships, NDTV reported.

In a female voice, Kushwaha asked the students to meet in remote places where a man would be sent to accompany them to their accommodation on a motorcycle.

According to police, he captured and raped at least seven tribal women in this way.

According to the report, Inspector General of Police Mahendra Sikarwar said, “A woman came to us and said that a man raped her after luring her to a deserted area on the pretext of helping her get a scholarship. After our investigation, we identified Brajesh Kushwaha, who was arrested. He told us that he used a mobile phone app to change his voice into that of a woman. Three of his accomplices were also arrested.”

“The clue that helped us solve the case was the fact that the students’ attacker was wearing gloves when he hit them all,” Sikarwar added.

A police official said that despite his illiteracy, Kushwaha managed to learn how to use the app and steal numbers from phones to identify potential targets, the report said.

Following the incident, the cyber cell issued an alert urging people to be cautious about misusing voice-changing apps.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has appointed a nine-member special investigation team to thoroughly investigate the case and find out whether Kushwaha is targeting other women. The team is headed by a woman deputy superintendent of police.
