Donation scams for Glenview teen killed in car crash are emerging, police warn

Glenview police issued a community alert after several fundraising scams surfaced for a teenager killed in a crash.

GLENVIEW, Ill. (WLS) – Fundraising scams have emerged in connection with the high school student who died in a tragic car accident, Glenview police said.

Marko Niketic died in a car accident shortly after 11 p.m. on Mother’s Day.

Niketic was driving a Mercedes that was hit by a speeding Mustang, police said. The force of the impact almost tore Niketic’s car in half, with the entire trunk ripped away. The rear of the car landed in a neighbor’s yard.

Since his death, several fake GoFund Me and Facebook fundraisers have been soliciting and accepting donations.

Police clarified that the teen’s family has not approved or participated in any Facebook or GoFund Me pages.

People who have donated money should request a refund through the website and report the site as a scam.
