Tampa police are “deeply concerned” for the missing woman after the Amber Alert was canceled

A missing girl who was last seen in Tampa and was the subject of an Amber Alert early Monday morning has been found safe in North Florida less than two hours after she disappeared.

Police officers were still searching for a woman included in the alert as of Monday afternoon and they were “deeply concerned for her overall well-being,” a Tampa police news release said.

Around 1 a.m., the Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued an Amber Alert for 9-year-old Briana Pagan and 34-year-old Sylvia Pagan.

Authorities identified 38-year-old Jovanni Caceres Steffani as a person of interest – he is listed as Briana’s kidnapper on a state law enforcement missing persons poster.

Steffani was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Suwannee County shortly before 2 a.m.

Working with other agencies, Suwannee County officials found Briana uninjured and canceled the Amber Alert around 2:30 a.m

Tampa police did not immediately respond to questions about the relationship between the two adults and the young girl, citing an ongoing investigation.

“As investigators work diligently to locate Sylvia Pagan, we are deeply concerned for her overall well-being,” said the updated Tampa Police press release sent just before noon.

Sylvia Pagan was last seen around 10 a.m. Sunday in the 10400 block of Altman Street near Busch Gardens.

Tampa police ask anyone with information about her whereabouts to call 813-231-6130 or 911.
