Two people trying to evade police on a motorcycle were killed when the bike collided with two vehicles in El Cajon, authorities said Sunday.

According to El Cajon police, the accident occurred around 11:40 p.m. Saturday after officers attempted to stop a black Harley-Davidson motorcycle for a traffic violation at 1700 E. Main St.

“The motorcycle had two occupants and fled from officers at a high rate of speed westbound on Main Street,” the department reported.

The motorcycle separated from the pursuing officer and collided with the rear of a blue Toyota Tacoma and a black Hyundai Sonata at 1300 E. Main St.

The 42-year-old driver of the motorcycle and a 42-year-old passenger were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The victims’ names were withheld pending notification of family members. The occupants of the Tacoma and Sonata were uninjured and fully cooperative with the investigation, police said.

Further information was not initially available.

Authorities asked anyone with information about the case to call El Cajon police at (619) 579-3311.
