Houston Roughnecks sign Malcolm Epps and Samuel Jackson

The Houston Roughnecks have attacked this offseason like no other UFL team. They have now added TE Malcolm Epps and OL Samuel Jackson to their roster, signing them to letters of intent. Jackson’s letter of intent has not yet been made official by the league, while Epps’ has.

TE Malcolm Epps

The Roughnecks have had a fruitful few weeks when it comes to signing their UFL college draft picks. Their sixth-round pick Malcolm Epps officially signed his letter of intent with the team.

Epps spent his college career at several different universities. He started at Texas, where he played for three years. He recorded 292 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

In 2021, Malcolm Epps transferred to USC. He made five starts in 26 games for the Trojans over two years, totaling three scores and 191 receiving yards. For his final season of eligibility, Malcolm moved to Pittsburgh. He made two starts in 11 games played that year, accumulating 115 receiving yards.

Coming out of college, Malcolm caught the attention of the Eagles and Colts, but remained a free agent. He will now look to launch his professional career in the UFL, with the Houston Roughnecks.

Strengthening the offensive line has been a priority for new general manager Will Lewis in recent weeks, and they’re continuing that trend by adding UCF’s Samuel Jackson to the roster.

Jackson played at UCF throughout his college career, starting nearly every game from 2019-22. In 2022, he earned First Team All-AAC honors from Pro Football Focus. That led to a UDFA stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2023. Most recently, Jackson was with the Ottawa Redblacks of the CFL, but was released in June of this year.

At 6’6″ and 300 pounds, Samuel Jackson is a big athletic prospect who should be more than capable of making his case for a spot on this team in 2025.

Final Thoughts

It’s been a busy few weeks for the Houston Roughnecks, with Will Lewis working tirelessly to improve this team. They’ve added over 20 players and also done some house cleaning, releasing 16 players.

Most recently, the Roughnecks signed QB Davius Richard, an HBCU star who brings a lot to the quarterback room. It’s an exciting time to be a Roughnecks fan, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the offseason has in store for the organization.
