Israel considers response to deadly Golan attack – DW – 29.07.2024

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Sunday evening that Turkey could consider intervening in Israel as it has done in other countries, but did not specify what this might look like.

“We have to be very strong so that Israel cannot do these ridiculous things to Palestine. Just as we invaded Karabakh, just as we invaded Libya, we could do similar things to them,” he said during a speech about the Turkish arms industry.

“There is no reason why we cannot do this … We have to be strong so that we can take these steps,” he said in his televised address.

Despite attempts to bring the two Middle Eastern powers closer together before October 7, Erdogan openly criticized Israeli operations in the Gaza Strip.

The interventions Erdogan referred to offered little indication of what he meant by his remark.

In 2020, Turkish military personnel were deployed to support the UN-recognized Libyan Government of Accord.

As for Nagorno-Karabakh, Ankara has previously denied involvement in the invasion of the former ethnic Armenian-controlled enclave by its close allies in Azerbaijan.

Last year, however, Turkey said it would use “all means,” including military training and modernization, to support Azerbaijan’s efforts.
