Woman arrested for wrong-way driving accident on I-395 in Killingly: CSP

A driver of a Ford Escape told troopers that a Toyota Camry had left the right shoulder of the highway and turned around within the lane, state police said.

KILLINGLY, Connecticut — A Rhode Island woman was arrested Saturday following a ghost crash on Interstate 395 in Killingly, according to Connecticut State Police.

Megan Wolfsberger, 36, of Smithfield, Rhode Island, is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, driving the wrong way on a highway, and operating a motor vehicle without a valid registration.

At 1:52 a.m. Saturday, officers from Troop D in Danielson went to I-395 north near Exit 38 in Killingly after receiving a report of a two-car crash, state police said.

Troopers found two cars in the roadway, including a Toyota Camry on the right shoulder of I-395 North and a Ford Escape in the left lane of I-395, both with visible damage. No injuries were reported in the crash.

The driver of the Ford Escape told state police she called 911 to report the accident after the Toyota left the right shoulder of the highway and made a U-turn within the lanes. The Ford driver reportedly did not have enough time to avoid the accident because the Toyota entered the road in front of the Ford.

State police said that while speaking with the driver of the Toyota, identified as Wolfsberger, they could smell alcohol and noticed signs that she may have been impaired.

Wolfsberger told officers she had been drinking alcohol before driving, according to state police. Officers also noticed empty bottles in the car that looked like bottles for alcoholic beverages.

After failing her standardized sobriety tests, Wolfsberger was arrested and later released on $500 bail. She is scheduled to appear in Danielson Superior Court on August 9.
