Georgia receiver Rara Thomas arrested for domestic violence

Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Rodarius “Rara” Thomas was arrested Friday in Athens and charged with multiple felonies, the latest in a series of law-breaking offenses by players in the football program.

According to Fox 5 in Atlanta, Thomas was charged with three counts of domestic violence and three counts of second-degree cruelty to children.

Officials did not initially disclose what led to the arrest.

According to the Associated Press, Thomas has been suspended indefinitely from the Georgia football team.

The athletic department told the outlet that “this is a pending legal matter. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Last year, Thomas was arrested for false imprisonment and domestic violence.

Those charges were dropped when he completed a pre-trial diversion program.

Thomas caught 23 balls for 383 yards and a touchdown for the Bulldogs last season.

The Georgia State football program has struggled with numerous illegal activities since last year, primarily related to traffic violations.

Since the incident in which team employee and offensive lineman Devin Willock was killed in a car crash during a race, Georgia State’s football program has had a total of 25 arrests or citations for speeding, racing or reckless driving.

“The incidents we’ve had off the field are not something we can condone,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said at SEC Media Days earlier this month. “It’s very unfortunate, disappointing is probably the best word. I always talk about process and results. I’ve talked about how in wins and losses, we try not to base things on the results. In this situation, the results are very disappointing.”
