Land O’ Lakes woman killed in tragic incident on SR-54 in Lutz

PASCO COUNTY, Florida. – A 40-year-old Land O’ Lakes woman was fatally struck by a Ford Explorer on State Road 54 near Crescent Moon Drive in Lutz on July 27, 2024.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the woman, whose identity was not released, was stopped on the outside shoulder of SR-54 for unknown reasons. As the Ford Explorer, driven by a 21-year-old Lutz man, passed by, the woman opened her car door and got out, colliding with the vehicle.

The woman’s death was confirmed at the scene of the accident. The driver of the Ford Explorer was uninjured, while a 37-year-old man from Odessa who was riding in the woman’s vehicle suffered minor injuries.

The incident is currently under investigation and authorities are trying to determine the circumstances that led to the woman suddenly exiting her stopped vehicle.
