Man arrested for attempted murder after minor shooting over stolen bike

(PUEBLO, Colorado) – A man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after a minor was shot during a dispute over a stolen bicycle and the Pueblo SWAT team was called to the scene of a barricaded suspect in early July.

According to the Pueblo Police Department (PPD), 31-year-old Michael Santistevan has been charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder in connection with a July 7 shooting at 1700 Constitution Road, near Troy Avenue.


The incident occurred when a father and his two children were looking for the children’s stolen bicycle and they spotted what they thought was the bicycle outside a house. The father attempted to confront the residents of the house when a disturbance occurred.

According to PPD, shots were fired by a man inside the home as the family drove away. A child was struck by a bullet, but his injuries were minor. The child was taken to the hospital after being shot once in the back, but was later released. According to PPD, no suspect was found at the time of the incident.

However, police later identified Santistevan as a suspect and issued an arrest warrant. Santistevan was located on foot in the area of ​​Troy Avenue and Oakshire Lane and taken into custody after a short foot chase. He is currently being held without bail in the Pueblo County Detention Center facing three counts of attempted murder.

Santistevan is scheduled to appear in Pueblo District Court on July 29.
