Hiker Belyruth Ordóñez dead, parents in critical condition after heat exhaustion

A 30-year-old hiker was found dead and her parents are in a coma after officials believe they suffered heat exhaustion while hiking through a Utah state park, police said.

Belyruth Ordóñez, 30, and her parents Dario and Humbelina Ordóñez were hiking through Snow Canyon State Park on Saturday when the tragedy occurred, CBS 2 KUTV reports.

First responders went to the scene of the medical incident and found two people suffering from heat-related injuries.

While the two were being cared for, a passerby alerted them to another hiker who was unconscious “a little further away.” When rescue workers found Belyruth Ordóñez, they found that she was already dead.

“The investigation is ongoing and due to the unusual nature of this incident, no further information will be released at this time,” Santa Clara-Ivins Public Safety, which is investigating the tragedy, said in a statement.

Remembering Belyruth

Her friends said Ordóñez loved her family, enjoyed going out and exploring the area.

“She was just very friendly, very outgoing,” Yeraldine Calderon and Marlon Olaya, friends of the hiker, told KUTV. “We’ve known her for over 10 years. It was unbelievable, very shocking. No one expects to lose a close friend.”
