24-year-old man dies after accident with motorcycle and truck on AYE towards MCE

SINGAPORE — A 24-year-old man died after an accident involving his motorcycle and a truck on Friday morning (April 12). The truck driver is currently assisting with the investigation.

The accident occurred on the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) towards Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE), after the Clementi Avenue 2 exit. A Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) paramedic pronounced the man dead at the scene, the SCDF said.

The SCDF and the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said they were informed of the road accident at about 7:15am and 7:20am respectively.

The 46-year-old truck driver is helping with the investigation, police said. The police investigation is ongoing.

According to the Traffic Police’s (TP) annual traffic report from February, the number of deaths among motorcyclists and pillion riders increased by 44.7 percent, claiming a total of 68 lives in 2023.

Although motorcycles only account for 14.4 percent of the total vehicle population in Singapore, motorcyclists and pillion riders were involved in 53.5 percent of road accidents in 2023. They also accounted for half of all road deaths last year.
