Latest social media post by Corey Comperatore, victim of shooting at Trump rally, on X

The popular Pennsylvania father, who was killed while protecting his family in the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump on Saturday, appeared excited about the rally in his latest social media post.

Corey Comperatore, 50, was proud to attend Trump’s outdoor rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday night as part of his weekend plans.

“So what are you guys up to this weekend?” asked a popular pro-Trump X account known to his fans as “Catturd.”

“Trump rally! Butler, PA,” Comperatore replied at 7:25 a.m., hours before he was fatally shot.

Comperatore’s last post had been viewed over 3.3 million times as of Monday morning.

The former chief of the Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Department was shot and killed by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks at a pro-Trump rally, injuring the former president and two other people.

Comperatore’s sister, Dawn Comperatore Schafer, said her brother’s last act on earth was protecting his daughter when shots rang out during Trump’s speech.

“Hatred of a man cost the life of the man we loved most. He was a hero who protected his daughters,” she wrote on Facebook.

Allyson, the heroic father’s daughter, said he quickly threw her and her mother to the ground to try to protect them.

“He truly loved us so much he would have taken a real bullet for us,” Allyson wrote on Facebook. “And I want nothing more than to cry by his side and thank him.”

The selfless father’s wife, Helen, repeated her daughter’s loving description of the former fire chief as a “real superhero” who protected her.

“Yesterday, what should have been an exciting day for my husband, turned into a nightmare for our family,” Helen wrote on Facebook.

Fire Chief and 43-year veteran of the Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Department Kip Johnston said Sunday that the selfless actions of his former colleagues show how much he cares about his family.

Johnston described Comperatore as a “great leader, great family man and good friend” who stepped down as CEO in the early 2000s to spend time with his two daughters.

Others flocked to the post’s comments section, praising the father of two since his death.

“RIP HERO,” wrote popular TikTok X-account Libs in the replies.

“May God welcome you home and give strength and peace to your family,” commented another.

“The manliest thing you can do is protect and lead your family… and you did that Corey. God bless you,” another replied.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro ordered flags across the state to be flown at half-staff in honor of Comperatore and his final act of courage.

“Corey died a hero,” Shapiro said. “Corey was the best of us.”

The Pennsylvania governor described Comperatore as an “ardent supporter” of former President Trump.

Two protesters injured in Saturday’s attack are in stable condition and have been identified as fellow Pennsylvanians David Dutch, 57, of New Kensington, and James Copenhaver, 74, of Moon Township.

Crooks was stationed on a rooftop near Trump’s rally when he fired several shots at the former president and rally attendees before being killed by a Secret Service sniper.
