Dr. Ruth Westheimer, America’s most famous sex therapist, dies at the age of 96

Ruth Westheimer, the star sex therapist known to millions as “Dr. Ruth,” has died at the age of 96.

Westheimer died Friday at her Manhattan home, her publicist Pierre Lehu confirmed. The cause of death was not disclosed.

The sex therapist, born in Germany in 1928, survived the Holocaust before moving to the USA.

She rose to prominence in 1980 when she created the “Sexually Speaking” segment on New York City radio station WYNY, helping to destigmatize sex for generations of Americans.

She then hosted television shows and wrote more than 45 books.

Just last year, she was named an Honorary Ambassador for the state against loneliness by New York State Governor Kathy Hochul.

She leaves behind two children and four grandchildren.
