Helicopter incident during response to Bench Lake fire – LocalNews8.com

CUSTER COUNTY, Idaho – UPDATE: 10:41 p.m. The Forest Service reports a helicopter incident occurred during initial firefighting of the Bench Lake Fire Thursday evening in the Sawtooth National Forest.

Teams are on site investigating what happened.

The Forest Service says more information about the helicopter incident will be released as soon as it becomes available.

PREVIOUS STORY: A fire is burning 7 miles south of Stanley and southwest of Red Fish Lake.

The Custer County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the evacuation of the Inlet Campground, which is only accessible by boat.

Local News 8 spoke to the front desk at Red Fish Lodge, who said the fire is near 3rd Bench Lake and helicopters are dropping fire there.

The fire is called the Bench Lake Fire. It was first reported around 12:30 p.m. The fire is raging in the Sawtooth National Forest.
