YORK, Nebraska – York County Sheriff Paul Vrbka has identified the victim of a collision between an SUV and a semi-trailer that occurred Tuesday on Highway 34.

Robin L. Hendricksen, 71, of Grand Island was killed when his vehicle crossed the center line near the entrance to York Municipal Airport around 10 a.m. and collided head-on with a semi-trailer truck.

Captain Josh Gillespie reported that witnesses saw Hendricksen’s vehicle cross into oncoming traffic, resulting in the fatal crash.

Hendricksen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Multiple agencies were involved in responding to the accident, including the York County Sheriff’s Office, York Police Department, York Fire and Rescue, Nebraska State Patrol, Hitz Towing and the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

Vrbka said the investigation into this accident is still ongoing.
