Yellow alert: Severe storms and local flooding possible on Wednesday

ROCHESTER, NY — The remnants of Beryl are moving toward us and will bring plenty of weather to our area on Wednesday. Humidity will continue to increase overnight, and some showers and thunderstorms will develop, especially toward morning. It will be a very muggy and mild night, with temperatures not falling below 21 degrees. A passing warm front will bring some showers and a few isolated thunderstorms in the morning, but the storm and severe weather threat will increase during the afternoon hours. The window for the most widespread thunderstorms appears to be between 2 and 7 p.m. During this time, isolated thunderstorms are expected, some of which could be strong to severe, bringing damaging wind gusts. The main wind impact will be straight-line winds, but with the remnants of tropical systems, the atmosphere is naturally more agitated, so a brief tornado is not out of the question, especially in the Finger Lakes.

Torrential rain will also accompany any thunderstorms, so localized flash flooding is also possible. Wednesday could be one of the weatheriest days of the season, so stay tuned to the First Alert Weather team for updates on the radio, online and on social media.

During the night into Wednesday, the thunderstorms will quickly subside, and there will be a few persistent showers until Thursday, before the weather becomes much calmer and drier again on Friday.
