West Virginia State Police continue investigation into fatal shooting near Lenore

LENORE A Mingo County resident says he shot and killed a man who came to his home and started a fight.

West Virginia State Police First Sergeant MS Lively said 42-year-old Charles Speer of Kermit was shot by a 50-year-old homeowner early Friday morning.

Lively told MetroNews that Speer went to the house on Route 65 between Lenore and Naugatuck around 5 a.m. Friday. An argument between the two ended with the resident shooting the unarmed Speer several times. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The shooter and Speer were described as acquaintances.

Lively said the Mingo County District Attorney has requested that the investigation continue to determine if charges can be filed in the case, but no charges have been filed yet.
