Adhur police identified the accused as Sadik of Povval in Mulleria grama panchayat. “We suspect that he made the victim drunk before attacking her. We are recording the statement of the accused,” an officer said.

The police registered the FIR based on a complaint filed by the survivor’s parents, who alleged that Sadik sexually abused their son for the first time in January. Since then, he is said to have abused him several times. Recently, Sadik came on his motorcycle and picked up the survivor when he was waiting at the bus stop to go to school. He allegedly gave the mentally challenged youth a beedi to smoke and sexually abused him, his parents said.

Police said they had charged Sadik with assault by intoxicating the victim (Section 328 of the IPC), sodomy (Section 377 of the IPC) and assault on a disabled person with intent to dishonour him under Section 92 (b) of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. “We arrested him last year under the POCSO Act for sexual assault on a minor,” said an officer from the Adhur station.
