Steelers CB Cameron Sutton suspended for 8 games

Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Cameron Sutton has been suspended without pay for the first eight games of the season for violating NFL conduct rules, the league announced Monday.

Sutton, 29, signed a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers in early June after being released by the Detroit Lions on March 21, a day after authorities in Florida announced they were looking for him on allegations of aggravated assault and domestic violence.

That matter was resolved after he participated in a pre-trial diversion program that allowed Sutton to meet with the Steelers in April. The NFL then completed its own investigation into the incident, leading to Monday’s suspension decision.

Sutton will be available to play on October 29 following his team’s game against the New York Giants in Week 8.

Sutton started all 17 regular-season games with the Lions, recording 65 tackles, one interception, one forced fumble and six passes defensed. He also started Detroit’s three playoff games, recording eight tackles and three passes defensed.

After the suspension expires, Sutton will return to the team that selected him in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
