IDOC officer recovers after ‘incident’ with inmate

BUNKER HILL, Ind. — An Indiana Department of Corrections officer is recovering after an incident involving an inmate Saturday afternoon.

According to an Indiana DOC spokesperson, the incident occurred at around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, at the Miami Correctional Facility in Bunker Hill. Few details were released, but the officer was reportedly taken to a Fort Wayne hospital, where he was evaluated and released.

In a Facebook post on July 7 at 8:15 a.m., the Miami Correctional Facility and Annex were placed on lockdown and all volunteer and visitation activities were suspended until further notice.

The IDOC spokesperson confirmed to 13News that the incident is currently under investigation.
