CAN suspends cricketer Apsari Begam

The Nepal Cricket Association has suspended national cricketer Apsari Begam.

At a meeting of the national cricket governing body’s central operational committee on Thursday, it was decided to suspend Begam and transfer responsibility for further investigations to its disciplinary committee.

The cricketer is accused of misbehaving with the team manager and coach during an ongoing closed training camp in Kathmandu for the Women’s T20 Asia Cup, which will be played in Sri Lanka from July 9 to 28.

“It was decided to immediately exclude the player from the training camp and to transfer responsibility for further investigations and necessary measures in view of this serious breach of the Code of Conduct to the Disciplinary Committee,” the CAN said in a statement on Friday.

Meanwhile, CAN has decided to seek explanations from four people, including Vice President Roshan Kumar Singh.

In addition, central members Madhav Kumar Karmacharya and Durga Raj Pathak and Chetnath Paudel, president of the Sunsari District Cricket Association, were asked to explain why they had made negative comments about the association and its officials while participating in the T20 World Cup.

The meeting also decided to hold the Nepal Premier League in November/December.
