NFL veteran safety Tashaun Gipson suspended for performance-enhancing drugs

Veteran NFL safety Taushaun Gipson, who recently played in the Super Bowl with the San Francisco 49ers, has been suspended for six games by the league.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday that Gipson, 34, was suspended for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

Gipson is a free agent after two years in the Bay. He played in the 49ers’ 58th Super Bowl, losing to the Kansas City Chiefs, and recorded just five tackles.

The undrafted player developed into a ball-hunter on defense with the Browns from 2012 to 2015. Gipson made one Pro Bowl appearance in 2016. That season, Gipson recorded a career-high 52 tackles, eight passes defensed, one touchdown, one forced fumble, one pick-6 and six interceptions.

During his career, Gipson played for SF, Chicago, Houston, Jacksonville and Cleveland. Gipson recorded 684 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 33 interceptions and three touchdowns in 173 regular season games.
