Fatal tower crane accident | Vertikal.net

03.07.2024

Two men died and six others were injured when a large tower crane collapsed onto construction site huts/offices at a construction site for a new power plant to generate electricity from waste in Bangkok’s Prawet district yesterday.

The crane, which has a lifting capacity of 12 tons, also collided with a concrete mixer truck and overturned it.

The cause of the overturning seems clear: the foundation was obviously inadequate, although the situation may have been aggravated by an error in the installation of the counterweight or a significant overload.

The men killed are 53-year-old crane operator Somnuek Daochan and 47-year-old foreman Sunan Sutthiwilai.

The new power plant is one of several being built by New Sky Energy (Bangkok), which, as we know, also acted as main contractor.

An investigation is ongoing.
