Leinster House usher suspended after posting far-right and anti-immigration content online

An usher at Leinster House has been suspended after posting far-right and anti-immigration content online.

It is understood the usher was subjected to a disciplinary meeting attended by a human resources representative and a supervisor over a series of online posts and was escorted off campus on Monday.

In a statement, an Oireachtas spokesman said: “As you know, we do not comment on personnel or security matters.”

It is understood the usher had previously been questioned by Leinster House officials about the content he posted.

However, he continued to post and share anti-immigration tweets online, including posts about votes in the Dáil.

In a post critical of people coming to Ireland from other countries, the usher suggested the formation of “militias”.

Other posts suggest that Irish people are standing up against “foreign invaders.” He has also reposted comments from X that are highly critical of the government.

A retweeted post from another account included a list of 79 MEPs who voted for the EU migration pact and described them as “traitorous thugs who betrayed Ireland”.

Ushers in Leinster House control access to the Dáil and Seanad chambers. They receive visitors and guide them through Leinster House. They are also present in the Dáil and Seanad chambers and guard the entrances to Leinster House.

It is understood that the usher is currently under investigation and has been suspended during this time.
