ST. LOUIS – You may see 5 On Your Side meteorologists using weather alerts on air and online.

Our new tool informs you when severe or dangerous weather is expected. As soon as a severe weather warning is expected in our region, we declare a severe weather warning day.

What conditions trigger a weather warning day?

A 5 On Your Side meteorologist may declare a Severe Weather Warning Day when conditions are dangerous to humans, cause nuisance, or affect a large number of people.

Tornadoes, destructive hail, dangerous thunderstorms, snow, torrential rain, dangerous temperatures and other storms will cause 5 On Your Side meteorologists to declare a day as “Weather Alert Day.”

The severe weather warning days also take into account disruptive weather events such as heavy rain and wind or cases in which suboptimal weather conditions are expected at major events or during commuter times.
