New Delhi: A New Jersey school teacher was arrested for allegedly having a sexual relationship with an underage student, authorities said. Allison Havemann-Niedrach, 43, was charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, Monmouth County District Attorney Raymond S. Santiago said.

The investigation revealed that Allison allegedly began sexually abusing a student earlier this year. However, authorities did not disclose how it started or how often she abused the student, the New York Post reported. The student’s age was not disclosed. The school has students in grades 6 through 8.

The teacher is currently being held in the Monmouth County Jail pending her detention hearing. A hearing will be held to determine if she will remain in custody while she awaits trial.

The prosecutor’s office has asked the public for help in the case. “Anyone with information regarding Havemann-Niedrach’s activities is asked to contact MCPO Detective Dawn Correia at 800-533-7443,” the prosecutor’s office said in a press release.

Havemann-Niedrach’s LinkedIn profile states that she has been a special education teacher at Freehold Intermediate School since March 2022. Her profile states that she is a “passionate, results-oriented and sincere educator.”

Following the arrest, Asia Michael, the superintendent of the Freehold Borough School District, sent an email to staff and parents. The email stated, “We have been informed that a former employee has been arrested on charges of third-degree aggravated sexual assault and inappropriate sexual conduct with a minor. Please be assured that our district has fully cooperated with the District Attorney’s Office since the beginning of this investigation. The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority and we took immediate action to ensure their protection.”
