OAKLAND – A 26-year-old man was fatally shot and a 28-year-old woman was injured. The shootings occurred about 20 minutes apart in different parts of the city Saturday night, authorities said.

Authorities say there is no connection between the shootings.

The fatal shooting occurred around 7:07 p.m. Saturday outdoors in the 8000 block of Edes Avenue, not far from the Oakland Coliseum.

The 26-year-old man, whose name was not released pending notification of his family, got into an argument with another man who shot him before fleeing, authorities said.

The victim, who lived in the area, was taken to a hospital where he died a few hours later, authorities said.

Police have not released any details about the dispute. No arrests have been made and no information about the suspect has been released.

The killing is the 47th murder case investigated by Oakland police this year. At this time last year, police had investigated 53 murder cases in the city.

The woman was found shot to death around 6:51 p.m. after her vehicle crashed near the intersection of High Street and Redding Street, south of Interstate 580 and east of the Laurel neighborhood.

Her condition was critical but stable and she was admitted to a hospital.

Initial reports indicate that she was shot while driving in the area, but the exact location of the incident has not yet been determined, police said.
