Girl allegedly raped by catering company employees on a moving train, 3 people arrested

A 19-year-old girl was allegedly raped by the staff of a catering company on the Chattogram-bound Udayan Express in the early hours of Wednesday (June 26).

SM Shahidul Islam, officer in charge (OC) of Chattogram Railway Police Station, said the incident occurred around 4:30 am.

Police have arrested three employees of SA Corporation, a catering company that supplies food to the trains, in connection with the rape, he added.

The arrested persons are Md Jamal (27), Md Sharif (28) and Md Rashed (27). All of them are employees of SA Corporation.

Abdur Rahim, a train conductor, was also suspended in connection with the incident, said Chattogram railway station manager Mohammad Moniruzzaman.

The victim, who hails from Bandarban, lived with her relatives in Bhairab.

According to police, the victim boarded the Udayan Express at Bhairab on Tuesday at 10 pm to return home to Chattogram. The incident occurred when she was sitting in the dining car.

The accused raped her while the train was passing through Laksam area.

The arrested persons were brought before the court and an application for seven days’ pre-trial detention was made for further investigation, the OC said.
