Coroner identifies driver in West Ashley car crash

CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – The Charleston County Coroner has determined the identity of the 69-year-old man who died in a serious crash on Ashley Crossing Drive on Saturday.

The death of Robert Olynick from Charleston was confirmed at the scene of the accident.


Charleston police closed Ashley Crossing Drive between Beechwood Road and Dogwood Road on Saturday afternoon after a vehicle driven by Olynick left the road for unknown reasons and struck a tree.

Witnesses told investigators that the vehicle was driving erratically before hitting the tree. The road was closed for about three hours after the incident.

Charleston Police are investigating this collision.
