Authorities in Buffalo, New York, confirmed that a 3-year-old boy was killed and his 7-year-old sister was injured after being struck by gunfire during a town hall meeting. family.

According to the Associated Press, officers transported the unidentified boy in a police car to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead; while his sister suffered abrasions deemed not life-threatening and is expected to make a full recovery.

Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph A. Gramaglia said at a news conference that the shooting was not related to the family reunion: “Last night was a very tragic night for our community.
