Prajwal Revanna’s brother Suraj remanded in custody for 14 days – India TV

Case of sexual assault: Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) MP Suraj Revanna was remanded in custody for 14 days on Sunday as part of an investigation into an alleged sexual assault. Suraj is the elder brother of Prajwal Revanna, who is accused of sexually abusing several women.

The Hassan police produced the JDS MP before the Bengaluru Magistrate on Sunday evening after he was arrested earlier the same day.

The case was handed over to the CID of Karnataka Police earlier in the day, but the CID has not yet taken over the case.

Suraj Revanna arrested

Earlier in the day, Suraj Revanna was arrested in Hassan on charges of “unnatural offences”. On Saturday, he was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a male party worker a few days ago. He has been charged under various sections of the IPC, including “unnatural offences”.

The investigation into this case has been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Subsequently, Suraj was shifted from Hassan to Bengaluru and produced before the 42nd Judge of the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court (ACMM) at his residence here, who remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days.

What is in FIR?

The complaint was filed on Friday by Shivakumar, a close associate of Suraj, against Chethan KS and his brother-in-law. According to the complaint filed by Shivakumar, Chethan became his friend and subsequently started working for the ‘Suraj Revanna Brigade’.

Chethan had recently demanded money for the maintenance of his family, but after Shivakumar refused to give him the money, he threatened to file a police complaint against Suraj Revanna for allegedly sexually abusing him, the complainant alleged.

According to Shivakumar’s complaint, Chethan demanded Rs 5 crore and later reduced the demand to Rs 2 crore. Accordingly, the police have registered a case under sections 384 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (involvement of others in conspiracy) against Chethan and his brother-in-law.
