Man from Maharashtra marries underage niece, rapes and impregnates her

Thane: Police in Thane district of Maharashtra have filed a case against a 23-year-old. Man out of Jalna District for marriage with his underage niece According to a police officer, this happened two years ago, when she was just 15 years old.

The police have also launched investigations against the man’s brother and the victim’s father, the official said on Saturday.

The man too impregnated the minor girl, the official added.

“Based on a complaint by the girl, who is 17 years old and now pregnant, an FIR was filed against the trio on Thursday under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act,” the Wagle Estate police station officer told PTI.

He added that the case has been transferred to Mantha police station in Jalna district as the crime took place within its jurisdiction.

The accused in the case are the girl’s 23-year-old husband, who is also her maternal uncle, her brother and the victim’s father, the official said.

The marriage took place on July 13, 2022, when the victim was only 15 years and five months old. Her father was responsible for getting her married to her maternal uncle, the official said, citing the complaint.

According to the complaint, the wedding was solemnised at Mantha in Jalna.

According to the FIR, the victim was repeatedly raped by her husband, after which she became pregnant, the official said.
