Gordon Ramsay says he is “on the road to recovery” after bicycle accident

Gordon Ramsay updated his fans on his recovery after being seriously injured in a cycling accident. The celebrity chef shared the news along with a sweet video of his son Oscar riding a bike and wearing a helmet.

In a previous social media post, Ramsay expressed his gratitude for being able to live a safe life after his accident, and at the time, his fans took to the comments section to express their condolences.

Nearly a week after his serious cycling accident, Ramsay recently gave an update on his recovery by sharing an Instagram video of his five-year-old son Oscar riding his bike and following important safety advice from his father.

“Thank you @oscarjramsay for listening to daddy!” Ramsay captioned the video, referring to Oscar’s helmet.

The chef added: “The purple potato is on the mend!!! Thanks everyone for the great news Gx.”

In the clip, Ramsay’s son dedicates his ride to his father, saying: “Dad, this is for you.”

Gordon Ramsay suffered severe bruises in his accident

Ramsay first revealed on Instagram that he had a bicycle accident in Connecticut on Saturday, June 15. “Honestly, I’m lucky to be here,” he said in a video describing the incident.

Showing off his badly bruised ribs, the Master Chef star admitted: “I’m in pain. It’s been a brutal week,” stressing the importance of wearing a helmet. He added: “And I’m getting through it somehow. But I can’t tell you how important it is to wear a helmet.”

He also stressed that protective head protection for children is necessary even on short journeys.

“I don’t care how short the ride is. I don’t care that these helmets cost money… they’re essential,” Ramsay insisted. “Even on short rides, the kids have to wear a helmet.”

According to the Daily MailThe culinary expert revealed that he started cycling as a hobby in 2018 because he feared that his marriage might fail because of his weight.

At that time, he noticed that he had gained weight and felt compelled to “pull himself together” because he feared that his wife would have had enough of him.

“Tana wasn’t impressed with me,” Ramsay said at the time. “I was overweight, 275 pounds. I looked like a sack of shit. I look at the pictures and think, ‘How could Tana stay here?’ Because Tana is better looking and prettier. And there she is, going to bed with a fat ass.”

He talked about how he had tried and eaten everything he could get his hands on before Tana complained that he was getting fat, which made him consider a 180-degree turn.

“It was painful. I looked at myself in the mirror and thought, ‘Holy shit!’ So that was a big wake-up call,” he added.

The chef’s trainer prescribed him an intensive training program

After much detour, he managed to get in touch with Will Usher, a former army captain and member of the Royal Protection Squad, who is a triathlon champion and also a coach.

Ramsay’s coach Usher prescribed a rigorous training regimen that included long-distance swimming, rowing, core strength training, three-hour sessions on an exercise bike each week and a Sunday endurance race over the hills of Surrey.

Another reason he gave for cycling was that he did not want to die as early as his father, who died of a heart attack at the age of 53.

“That’s only a few years away,” said Ramsay, now 57. “I’m constantly reminded to get fit, which is scary. I have that fear on a daily basis. I may not have gotten along with him, but I still miss him. I miss everything I could have had from him if he’d been alive in his 70s.”

Gordon’s large family keeps him busy, but despite their hectic schedules, he and his wife place great value on spending evenings together.
