Early morning fire in Leonard's Grant neighborhood under investigation

LEONARDTOWN, Maryland. — In the early morning hours of June 18, 2024, a fire broke out in the Leonard’s Grant neighborhood, in the 23600 block of North Montague Drive. Fire and rescue personnel arrived at the scene around 4:00 a.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the single-family home engulfed in flames from the rear. The Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department’s Engine 11 crew quickly began operations, laying a supply line from the hydrant and deploying a 1 3/4 hole line to extinguish the fire from the rear and checking for possible fire spread.

An initial search of the house was unsuccessful. The interior of the building was then checked for fire spread. The firefighters found that the fire was limited to the terrace and the outside of the house and had not spread inside.

No injuries were reported in the incident. Firefighters were on site for about an hour before they were able to return to duty.
