Russian troops attempt nine times to attack Ukrainian positions in the Kharkiv region

UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, June 17 – The Russian army attacked Ukrainian positions five times in the direction of Kharkiv and four more times in the direction of Kupiansk over the past day, the General Staff reported.

The Ukrainian military has stabilized the front line north and northeast of the Kharkiv region, where Russia launched a new ground offensive in May. Heavy fighting is currently taking place in and around Vovchansk and on the Lyptsi axis.

The General Staff reports that the Russian army has attacked Ukrainian positions near Vovchansk five times. The Ukrainian military has repelled three attacks and two more battles are currently taking place.

Since the beginning of the day, Russian troops in the direction of Kharkiv have lost 122 people. The Ukrainian army destroyed 31 Russian shelters and ammunition depots.

In the direction of Kupiansk, the Russians tried four times to push back Ukrainian troops from their positions near Synkivka, Stepova Novoselivka and Berestove. The Ukrainian armed forces repelled two of the attacks, and fighting near Synkivka and Stepova Novoselivka continues, the General Staff reports.

As Oleksandr Syrskyi, commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, said on June 12, the Russian army is conducting unsuccessful offensives, trying to penetrate deep into Ukrainian positions and create a “security belt” for its forces.
