Jeremy Renner helped a stranded driver in a snowplow accident, the mayor says

Jeremy Renner in 2016. The actor is currently in critical but stable condition in an intensive care unit following a snowplow accident near his home, representatives said Monday.

Jeremy Renner was trying to help a stranded motorist when he was hit by his snow plow, an official says.

Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve told the Reno Gazette-JournalMonday that the “Avengers” star was using his snow plow near his home in Reno, Nevada, on the side of a snow-covered mountain on New Year’s Day. Renner spotted a stranded driver near his property and got out of his vehicle to help when he was hit by the plow, according to Schieve.

Schieve told the Reno Gazette-Journal that she is friends with the 51-year-old and received a call about the incident shortly after Sunday.

“He helped someone who was stranded in the snow,” Schieve told the local newspaper. “He’s always helping others.”

Schieve noted that Renner often donates to local charities but does not make it public.

“He always calls and says, ‘Hey mayor, what do you need?'” she said.

A New Year’s Eve storm brought heavy snowfall to Reno, causing power outages in thousands of homes. Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam said during a news conference On Tuesday, the Mt Rose Highway – a steep mountain road and the only public road near Renner’s residence – was closed at the time of the accident due to at least three feet of snowfall.

Balaam offered a more detailed and slightly different version of the events leading up to the accident (video above). He said one of Renner’s family members was driving the actor’s personal vehicle when it got stuck in the snow. Renner used his plow to successfully tow the vehicle from its location. He then got out of his plow to talk to his family member when it started rolling. Renner tried to jump back into the plow to stop it from moving but was run over.

Balaam said police are in possession of the plow and are investigating whether there was “any mechanical failure that may have caused it to roll.” However, he also emphasized that the police did not suspect a crime and had not yet spoken to Renner about the incident.

Renner – who stars as Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – had surgery on Monday to treat blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries suffered in the accident. He is currently there Critical but stable condition in an intensive care unit, representatives for the actor said Monday.

On Tuesday, Renner released his first public statement on Instagram, thanking fans for their support. The statement was accompanied by a photo showing injuries on his face.

“I’m too confused to type now,” he wrote. “But I send you all my love.”
