Man shot with shotgun on Compton roof, presumed dead

The man was found unconscious on the roof of Compton. A shotgun and shell casings were found nearby. However, it is unclear who shot him.

COMPTON, Calif. (KABC) – On Thursday evening, officers searched a Compton neighborhood after a man with a gun was reported on a roof.

The incident ended with the man apparently being shot and presumably dead at the scene.

The incident began shortly before 8 p.m. with reports of a man with a gun on a roof in the 14,000 block of Cahita Avenue.

While they investigated the situation, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials evacuated surrounding homes.

Eventually, the officers managed to get to the roof, where they found an unconscious man at the crime scene. Next to him were a shotgun and several cartridge cases.

He appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound, but it is not clear who fired the shot. The department says officers fired their weapons during the incident, but it is not clear if they were the ones who struck him. A department spokesperson would not confirm whether the man is dead, but he did not appear to be moving at the scene and was not taken to a hospital.
