Rockland NYPD deputy inspector charged with covering up drunk driving incident

A Rockland County NYPD deputy inspector has been charged with covering up an incident while under the influence of alcohol in an NYPD vehicle, according to the Manhattan district attorney.

According to authorities, 44-year-old Paul Zangrilli allowed a person he was dating, Nikole Rupple, to drive his unmarked NYPD car after both had been drinking for several hours.

Authorities say Zangrilli was in the passenger seat when Rupple was driving the car and struck a delivery vehicle. Rupple and Zangrilli fled the scene. Officials say Zangrilli drove the same vehicle while drunk later that evening.

The officer allegedly lied about the incident and attempted to delete the video evidence. Zangrilli now faces several charges, including tampering with evidence and driving under the influence.
