According to John Fetterman’s accident report, he was “at fault” and was driving too fast

Senator John Fetterman (D-Penn.) was “at fault” in a car crash in Maryland in which he was speeding and ended up hitting another car on Sunday, according to a Maryland State Police report.

Fetterman, his wife Gisele and the other driver, a woman from Pennsylvania, were hospitalized after the crash, which occurred at about 7:45 a.m. Both vehicles – Fetterman’s Chevrolet Traverse and the woman’s Chevrolet Impala – were towed after Fetterman allegedly passed the woman’s car at a “high rate of speed, well over the posted speed limit.”

Fetterman hit her car just before the I-68 exit in Hancock, Maryland, between Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The speed limit was 70 miles per hour.

Fetterman and his wife were examined at a local hospital “out of an abundance of caution,” according to a statement released Monday by the senator’s spokeswoman, Carrie Adams.

The police report stated that the extent of the damage to both parties was “disabled”.

Fetterman was treated for a shoulder contusion and the couple was released Sunday afternoon, Adams said. Sunday was the Fettermans’ 16th wedding anniversary, according to the junior senator, who published a post about the accident Monday evening.

No citations were issued and Maryland State Police are investigating. Neither Fetterman nor the woman were tested for alcohol or drugs, police said.

A spokesman for Fetterman did not immediately respond to The Inquirer’s request for comment on Wednesday.
