NIA suspends strike

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced its decision to suspend the indefinite strike called on June 10, 2024.

This suspension is subject to the outcome of negotiations with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), scheduled for Friday, 14 June 2024.

This decision followed interventions by various stakeholders, including the Minister of National Security, an invitation from the Fair Wages Commission for negotiations on June 14, 2024, a recommendation from the parent union based on the decision of the National Labour Commission, and a public outcry from concerned Ghanaians.

In a statement, the NIA pointed out that the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission had assured it that the negotiations were being conducted in good faith.

However, the union has made it clear that it will not hesitate to resume industrial action if the government fails to meet its expectations regarding the granting of institutional allowances by the end of negotiations on Friday.

The union called on the Fair Wages Commission and the government to find a positive solution in the interests of industrial peace.

Union members were asked to report to work on Thursday, June 13, 2024, and to perform their duties professionally.

The union leadership acknowledged the significant impact of the strike and thanked its members for the solidarity shown.

They also thanked the media for their consistent reporting and the public for their interest in the matter.
