Lagos PDP suspends former party chairman Aeroland for damaging party’s image

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State has indefinitely suspended the party’s former state chairman, Segun Adewale, alias Aeroland.

Mr Adewale, whose political base is Alimosho, was suspended for allegedly sowing discontent within the PDP and damaging the party’s image.

Isiaka Shodiya, the party’s local government chairman, announced Mr Adewale’s suspension at a press conference in Lagos on Tuesday.

Besides Mr. Adewale, the LGA Vice Chairman, Esther Adeyemi (Ward 11), the Auditor General, Jimi Awogbade (Ward 4), the Organising Secretary, Bola Bamgbose (04), John Bolaji, Chairman of Ward E1 and Kenneth Nwanzuere of Ward M1 were also suspended for one month.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s LG Secretariat in the presence of LGA leaders and eight of the 11 district chairmen, Mr Shodiya said the party had decided to suspend Mr Adewale and others for bringing the party into disrepute through falsehoods and baseless allegations on social media.

According to him, Mr Adewale disregarded the party’s constitution, promoted violence and disrespected the party leadership.

Mr Shodiya read out a letter dated June 11 addressed to the PDP State Chairman, Philip Aivoji, which stated that party members in the LGA were awakened on March 22 by a recorded message from Mr Adewale on the Alimosho PDP WhatsApp platform, in which he alleged that party leaders were accepting bribes.

Mr Adewale’s other offences included making false allegations against the LGA bordering on embezzlement and making statements that could damage the party’s image and affect its political success on social media.

Mr Shodiya said that Mr Adewale was also promoting division within the party by creating a parallel structure that would challenge and compete with the authentic structure of the party.

“All of the above and other offenses blatantly violate the party’s statutes according to Section 58 Paragraph 1 letters a, b, h, I, L and m.

“Having complied with the above-quoted section, the LGA executive of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alimosho, has no option but to comply with Section 59(1) Subsection D and declare that Mr. Segun Adewale of Ward 10 (M1) in Alimosho is hereby suspended indefinitely.

“We use this medium to inform the world that Mr. Segun Adewale (Aeroland) is suspended indefinitely and should be treated accordingly.

“We will also communicate this to the Nigerian Police so that they are aware of the current status of Mr. Segun Adewale within the party,” Mr. Shodiya said.

The chairman added that Mr Adewale had also taken some party members to the Zone 2 police headquarters “on the basis of baseless allegations with an evil intention to intimidate them and thereby sow discontent within the party”.

According to him, Mr Adewale also took to social media to accuse members of the party’s national body and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of accepting bribes and “thereby portraying our party to the voters as a useless party full of bribe seekers and takers”.

Mr Shodiya said the party had also referred some matters to the party leadership and a duly constituted disciplinary committee, including the Council of Elders of Alimosho PDP, for resolution.

He said Mr Adewale had failed to respond to invitations from the Council of Elders and the Disciplinary Committee.

The party leader said Mr Adewale was suspended based on the committee’s recommendations.

Ezekiel Oriyomi, the LGA secretary, also said that Mr Adewale had not added value to the party and was associated with the ruling party.
