Woman found naked on the street in Canberra is said to have been held captive for days

A woman who was observed by ACT Police running naked and screaming down a suburban street in northern Canberra on Monday said she was held captive and raped for several days.

Two women have died after being swept off rocks into the sea in southern Sydney. Police were called to Cape Solander in Kurnell at around 4.30pm on Monday after reports that three women had been swept into the sea. One woman made it back to shore, the other two were pulled from the water a short time later but could not be resuscitated.

At around 7pm on Monday, police were conducting routine patrol on Fairweather Circuit in Lyneman when they noticed a naked woman running down the road screaming.

Officers immediately took the woman to their car, where she told them that she had been held captive by a man in a nearby house for several days.

During her imprisonment, she told police that she had been raped several times.

Police confirmed that the woman had suffered multiple injuries.

Police located the house where they said the woman had been held and arrested a 44-year-old man from Lyneham.

He is accused of four crimes: deprivation of liberty, sexual intercourse without consent, assault and failure to appear in court.

Police are continuing to investigate the matter and expect further charges to be filed.
