Braves place Jimmy Herget on injured reserve, recall Daysbel Hernandez

The Atlanta Braves announced a roster change ahead of Saturday’s game against the Washington Nationals. The Braves placed reliever Jimmy Herget on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation. Daysbel Hernandez was called up to take Herget’s place on the roster.

Herget arrived from the Angels on May 2 and appeared in five games out of the bullpen while allowing three runs in 7. ¹⁄₃ sleeves. It was used primarily for cleaning tasks.

Hernandez had an earlier stint on the active roster where he allowed three hits and one unearned run in two innings. He spent most of the season in Gwinnett where he had a 2.29 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 19 ²⁄₃ sleeves.

It may be a short stay for Hernandez on the active roster, as the Braves plan to promote pitcher Hurston Waldrep to start Sunday’s series finale at Washington.
