Man arrested for sexually abusing an underage girl

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A man was arrested and charged in Joliet for allegedly sexually abusing an underage girl.

Police said they received a call Thursday morning from an underage girl whose house a neighbor had broken into and attempted to attack her.

Police said they saw the suspect, 23-year-old Isaias Vargas, coming out of the victim’s home and fleeing from officers.

He lost them in a wooded area but was eventually caught. When Joliet police caught up with Vargas, he was hiding on the second floor of a chicken coop near his home on Richards Street near Doris Avenue.

According to police, Vargas confessed to attempted sexual abuse of the girl and admitted to sexually abusing her when she was a teenager.

Vargas was charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault, two counts of burglary, false imprisonment, two counts of assault and obstructing police.
