Filming of “Walking Dead” continues in historic Worcester mansion

WORCESTER – “The Walking Dead: Dead City” returned to Worcester on Thursday to bring even more post-zombie apocalypse magic to the big screen.

It was the sixth time that “Dead City” was filmed in the city. Jeffrey Dean Morgan, best known for his role as Negan in “The Walking Dead” universe, entered the historic Morgan Mansion, named after Paul B. Morgan, president of the Morgan Construction Company and the Heald Machine Company.

Previously, at around 9:45 a.m., an accident had occurred on stage when a fabric-covered steel structure erected in front of a bay window tipped over and a worker on a folding ladder fell to the ground.

The middle-aged man, wearing a Boston Red Sox jersey and camouflage shorts, suffered minor cuts and bruises to his left leg. He was taken away on a stretcher 45 minutes later and taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

Just before 11 a.m., a dozen unkempt and weathered extras arrived on Cedar Street, wearing worn leather jackets and armor, one of them with a mutated face and arm.

Shortly after 11 a.m., Morgan jumped out of his black luxury van, script in hand. Wearing glasses and a black long-sleeved shirt with the words “People’s Champ” on the back, he drove with three actors dressed in post-apocalyptic marauder gear. Undeterred by the rain, they entered the Morgan Mansion without batting an eyelid.

After going over lines and setting up scenes and shots, Morgan was picked up by his van just before 12:30pm after posing for a few selfies with fans. Apparently there was a delay in filming.

As of 1pm, Morgan was the only major star of the series to be spotted.

On May 1, the focus was on 8 Norwich St., a two-story building transformed into Salvatore New York City, a luxury men’s clothing store, where zombie apocalypse survivor and mother Maggie Green Rhee and her partner Perlie Armstrong (actors Lauren Cohan and Gaius Charles) are on the rooftop planning their next move.

On May 2nd, filming revolved around leather-clad Negan and his trusty, barbed wire-wrapped Louisville Slugger, “Lucille.”

On May 6, filming focused on a menacing entourage of armored vehicles speeding down Norwich Street. Led by a yellow New York City taxi, the Croatian’s pro-war, souped-up Cadillac followed close behind. Next came a blue van, a New York City Fire Department ambulance, and a green New York City Garbage Truck. The final line of cars was a black van.
