Dale County man charged with rape, claims child seduced him, investigators say at bail hearing

DOTHAN, Alabama (WDHN) – More information has been released about a Daleville man accused of raping and sodomizing a young girl.

Judge Stanley Garner is considering whether or not to grant bail to 33-year-old Colt Bryan Lecuyer, who is charged with first-degree rape and sodomy, following an Aniah’s Law hearing Tuesday afternoon.

Dale County Sheriff Mason Bynum said his department received a call on Friday, May 31, from someone in Level Plains who claimed he saw Lecuyer having sex with an 8-year-old girl in the back of his truck. When police arrived, they said Lecuyer fled the scene.

On Sunday, Dale County investigators found Lecuyer fleeing on foot in the Tuskegee National Forest. After a four-mile chase through the forest, Lecuyer was arrested.

During Tuesday’s hearing, Dale County Investigator Lt. Caroline Jackson testified that while he was fleeing, Lecuyer texted his girlfriend explaining what happened. He also claimed the 8-year-old girl seduced him and blamed her for the incident.

Lt. Jackson also said Lecuyer sent messages to his mother while on the run, writing, “My life is over and I am sorry for letting my family down.”

Lecuyer is a registered sex offender and is on lifetime probation following his 2013 conviction on charges of attempting to entice a child to engage in sexual activity.

Judge Garner is expected to rule on Lecuyer’s bail by Wednesday afternoon.

“My judgment will speak for itself,” Garner told the court before dismissing the case.
