Burglary suspect arrested after chase in Watertown

WATERTOWN, SD (Dakota News Now) – Two men suspected of committing crimes in Sioux Falls and Brookings were found in a stolen vehicle in Watertown on Saturday.

According to the Codington County Sheriff’s Office, officers found a stolen Toyota Prius at a convenience store east of Watertown around 11:33 p.m. on June 1. When they attempted to make a traffic stop, the vehicle fled and a chase began on Highway 212.

The people in the vehicle were arrested at a convenience store in west Watertown. Jovaun Clayton, 31, and Mallie Schloesser Jr., 31, of Sioux Falls were arrested.

It turned out that Clayton and Schloesser Jr. were suspected of a burglary in Sioux Falls and had criminal charges filed against them in Brookings as well.

Clayton, who is currently on probation, has been charged with aggravated escape, resisting arrest, receiving stolen goods, failure to obey stop signs, reckless driving, obstructing public order, driving without headlights and driving without a license. He is currently being held at the Codington County Detention Center on $5,000 cash bail.

Schloesser Jr. was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession or use of drug paraphernalia and possession of stolen goods. He is being held at the Codington County Detention Center on $3,000 cash bail.
